try, try again

soooo i made this shirt for a friend of mine to wear for rush week...
and was reminded once again of the importance to take your time and think about what you're doing when working with such permanence as bleach...
the front turned out great... but i put the stencil down backwards when i did the back so when it's right side out.. the words are backwards

this is what it's supposed to look like...

i plan to do a sort of "tutorial" on doing shirts with this method... or at least about what not to do :-)

summer's last glimmer - friday, saturday

friday i went to work with my dad and then went over to school for workweek at the house and to sign away more of my life to the school and government (who is now loaning me money because they took over the people i was borrowing from...) i'm excited to be back and to see everybody!!!

so i did chi o prep stuff the rest of the day and them met up with my family and we all came down to Melville (south Louisiana) to see my grandparents and some of my grandmothers side of the fam coming from all over, Cali., NC, ole Virginni... also the church is doing a taste fair... a bunch of people cook for a theme, like Italian or Cajun... this should be interesting...

saturday
to day has been a little boring ... the elec went out during breakfast and i had to take a shower in the dark... grandmother's doing spaghetti and my little sis made a red velvet cake from scratch with cream cheese icing from scratch.... but i'm cutting back so none for me...
laters!!

summer's last glimmer - tuesday, wednesday, thursday

tuesday i was greeted with the terrible scraggliness of our front yard and resolved to drag out the push mower and tackle it before it got to be in full sun. but i got distracted by the craziness inside. then theses two guys pulled up and unloaded a mower and a weedeater from the back of their truck, and came over and said that they were going to mow the yard!!!! i was super excited. and they did a great job too! ten in the middle of my cleaning, this random lady came in (the doors were open to let the breeze in since we still had no air) and asked about the resale shop that used to be next door and how the lady she's renting the place she's staying from stole this ring and that ring and her sons ring that had this stone and the ring she bought her husband and the ring her husband bought her and how one day she came out of her bathroom and her renter's son was in her bedroom by where she kept her cash and that he stole it ... i was so confused... i think she was looking for somewhere to lok if that lady decided to hock her stuff.... i think...

the rest of my day was less crazy.. met dad for lunch and went to work

wednesday - i worked at the house all day... ugh i was so gross...
te electrical guys came (they were really funny to listen to ) to put the wires back on the house and fix the box.... but Swepco (the ecec. supplier) had to connect it to the power... so still no air :-(
by the time i got home i was tired and dirty and so we stayed home and watch church online...

thursday AAAAIIIIRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!
they finally came, at the tail end of my project (oh the irony)
i had just finished putting most everything back in the closet, and cleaning what i could and they got the elec. back on just in time to vacuum :-) the house looked so nice when i left for lunch!

too bad some of the girls came by for workweek to get ready for rush and made it look all lived in again... im going to start cracking down on these girls about cleaning up after themselves...

summer's last glimmer - monday

ok so i thought "hey i could post about how i spent my last week of summer...however uninteresting it may turn out to be..."

so here is monday...

i get up early and head to the Chi Omega house to do some cleaning before school starts. I very quickly see this is going to be a much larger task than i had first percieved...

the lawn looks like a beard that someone tried to remove with sandpaper (i think someone tried to use a weedeater on the whole yard..), the storage closet is looming it's horribly cluttered head at me in mocking, and i go into the back yard and almost sorta kinda freak...

at first i laughed because i thought someone tried to have a bonfire and it burned part of the deck... then i saw the rest of the burn, the limb,... and the wire.... then i kinda figure out what happened and start running around in frantic hopeful disbelief, flipping swiches and pleading to noone in particular that the circumstances were not actually true... the electricity was off until further notice. that meant that i had to work without AC...... not cool. (no pun intended)

apparently the limb fell, pulling the wire down, which pulled the wires off o fthe house and out of the meter box, which caused a large explosion frying half of the nearby tree/bush (some of the leaves were all puffed up like popcorn...), lighting the grass and fence onfire... somehow the deck caught fire and burned pile of leaves too. too bad i didn't get to see any of it lol

so anyway, i decided to ignore the back for the time being and pullabout a gazillion weed from the front, pulled everthing out of the supply/storage/junk/catchall closet and started sorting.... then i met my dad for lunch and went over to work at his office!

well, that's not all i did.... i might tell you the rest later ;-)

making one last getaway before school starts again!!!

Galveston!!!

this was on the ferry to the island....

oh how i do love the ocean... i love the beach too, but i'd take the ocean, the waves, the wave crestings, the fish, the gentle rocking, the life, the salt, the expanse, the beauty.... over the beach any day :-)

can anyone say "i'm-bored-at-work-and-i-have-colored-sticky-notes-that-i-turned-into-an-origami-cube" lol

a treasure in the trove

so the other day i was with my mom and we spy a garage sale sign... we pull up and it looks like someone dumped their junk out in the front yard.... those always have the cheapest treasures :-)
so we poke around, but there is not a soul to be seen (i start to have seconds thought as to if this is THE garage sale, that we might be nosing into someone stuff that's NOT for sale...) then the slightly scary older man comes around and says there's more inside... a little creepy, but we go in (my mom will do anything for a good deal lol no fear)... well it turns out that this guy, who turns out to be not too creepy, his mom died and he's been holding this "garage sale" for about a year.. he keeps pulling stuff out of storage, i'm telling you this lady was a major pack rat... BUT.... (here's the good part)

i poked my head into the hallway and there was a big black trashcan with a bunch of clothes draped across it and it wasn't until the second time i looked that i noticed a bit of yellow sticking out from underneath...
curiosity and the treasure hunter inside me will always get the best of me, so i reached down and the second i touched the material, i know i had found something very special....
that day i rescued a beautiful cinched waist, turn-key clasp-ed, pocket-ed, butter-yellow, butter-soft, leather cape that magnificently sets off the color of my hair with my (current) skin color.....
and the price for the reward for following my inner dumpster-diver.... $5.... yep... five dollars
my life was just made fabulous :-)
now i intend to get some stunning Daniel Storto gloves, and maybe a perfect hat to round out my lovely ensemble!!!
