meet, greet, and in the door put your feet

i'm in Nachitoches Louisiana for the festival of lights!!!
Disney performing artist Anna Margaret came and performed a few songs and did a meet and greet..  real cute but here's the real story...
ok so my dad does some engineering work for the city and he knows a lot of the city people, so we're invited to the party at the city's house on the river where everything is happnin'  well this year Anna Margaret (who is from Lecompte Louisiana) is the grand marshal of the parade and a guest of the city so she came to the party.  i only spoke to her in passing on the stairs there.  the concert started at 2 so i went down to the stage about 20 minutes beforehand to rub elbows and bend the rules :) before she got there.  at the merch table (run by her family) i talked to her grandmother and she's a real doll.  i had with me my Pentax film camera so i got some shots from the side of the stage and then i slipped in the barricade gate and got some great (hopefully) close-up shots from the from of the stage!  when she finished, after the carted her off, i asked one of the ladies that was part of her "crew" if they had a production photographer (which is something i would like to do so i wanted to talk to someone already in the business) and she said that she didn't think so but "that's her manager right there, he'd be the one to ask"....   so i went up and said hi to her manager and music man and hes a very jovial man, great personality... anyway, he said that they didn't, Disney usually supplies one" but i don't really like them" lol and that "Anna likes to support people from Louisiana"... i'm telling you i almost popped out of my skin and volunteered :)
so he said to send Anna a message on facebook and tell her that i talked to him and he'd hook me up with a list of photographers!!!!  i'm going over to her trailer (which is parked right across the street from my dads office) after the fireworks to talk to her and her manager!!  maybe i can hook up with them sometime and do pictures :)
oo the fireworks started!!! brb
ok so i hung out at the meet and greet after the fireworks (poor dear was smiling for pictures and signing autographs for almost two hours after the fireworks) and visited with her manager and her little brother Grant until she was finished.  then her manager took me back to where she was at the table and said "this is the photographer i was telling you about"   {i almost fell over... ANNA's  manager was talking about ME lol} so she introduced herself, and i did the same, and she gave me her web information to get in touch with her to get in touch with her manager who is going to send me a list of production photographers!! how super exciting is that?!?!?   so i got my feet in the door and i hope it goes somewhere!!!
Anna is so super sweet :) and even after going since 8 that morning she look utterly fabulous... natural beauty is special like that.
i also got some up close shots of the concert with my vintage Pentax... i hope they turn out!!

OHMAGUNNISohmygoodness!!!!
today i added two pair of shoes to my collection...
today i added two pair of shoes to the needy feet of children
today i bought m first TOMS shoes.....

( i think that's the most i've ever paid for shoes... but i appease my guilt by reminding myself that i really paid for 4 pairs of shoes.. but only two go to me..)
{i have shoes that are more expensive shoes, but i never pay that much for them}

i got a a pink/orange linen/burlap pair and the dark grey!!! i am sooo excited about these!! WOOOHOOO

i wore them for about 4.5 hours and they were rather comfee :)   but i've seen some that belong to friends of mine that look like they've been through a saw mill so they must be fantastically comfi lol

SEE ROCK CITY!!! (well Rock Springs actually)

i'm spending fall break out at my grandparents ranch in west texas and i don't want to leave... i love it so much here.   yesterday evening i went out and picked prickly pears and peeled them after supper (a rather arduous task, to be sure... best to wear gloves of some sort because those prickles get everwher).  i'm not quite sure what i'm going to do with them...
my mom called me around 11:30 on wednesday and said hey you want to go to the ranch this afternoon. and i was like yeah you didn't even have to ask...  so we left Shreveport around 7:30 and drove 8 1/2 hours and got here at 4 in the morning, came in and got in bed and surprised everybody in the morning!!
me, logiBear, and my little sis, Katelyn Rose
my cousin, Logan, is leaving for Iraq next week and this was the last time we would get to spend with him, and it was fabulous :)
we loooove our logan!!

we've had a ton of fun!!

yesterday a few of us decided to drive over to Rock Springs to check out the local scene.. well we set out on a mission: to find the shorter route.. like ole Chris Colom.  well we drove on all  the roads, all over the ranches between here and there, trying to find our way there... we were driving around for 3 hours trying to get to a town that was 27 miles away.   we would have been going around, so very lost, for longer except that we ran into one of the ranch workers (not literally) and he told us how to go...
one of the ranches, about the 3d time we passed it, i said stop i've got to go to the bathroom... i didn't know how long we'd be wandering around and i wanted to jump at the chance of a real bathroom while it was an option... well there wasn't anyone there but i was determined to use a bathroom and sure nuff' they had a big'ole nice out building with two full baths!!
when we finally got to town, in less than 2 minutes we were stopped at a garage sale and i bought my first pair of cowgirl boots for $12 :-)
(mother says i had some when i was little but that doesn't count...)
then we went for lunch at the tiny little bar-b-q place... sooo fabulous
and we met this deaf boy there, and i know a little so we talked to him a bit.. my uncle know a wee little bit too and his son, who's about the same age, knows a lot so he's going to get them together online so they can talk :-)
all in all it was a fun adventure... and it took us much less time to get back ;)

well tata for now!!

my phone went - blub, blub, blub

soooooo
yeah last weekend i had an amazing 3dayweekend at my grandparents river camp in south louisiana.  a practically perfect weekend, exceeeeeeept... i accidental went swimming with my phone.  i was only in the water for about 30 seconds before i realized that i had it in my pocket.  i was jumping around and laughing and going "no. nooo! nonono... NOOOOO. nnnnoooooooooo!! nononno."
so i took it apart and laid all the pieces out on the boat and when we got back to the house i but it in some rice...
well in the end it doesn't work and i lost all my pictures and all the contacts that didn't fit onto my sim card (which only holds like 150... fail)and my notes to self (which included important reminders, lyric ideas, and other random info)
so now i'm on my dad's old Palm... it's alright and i guess a better idea than a  iPhone since i drop my phone about 3 or 4 times a day :)
so anyway...
there won't really be much in the way of pictures in posts because the camera on that thing is not cool :(

i did get one picture up  right before i soaked my phone...
this is a friend of my sisters that went with us.  that's a zipline thing that my grandfahter built that goes out over the water. so awesome.  it start about 25 feet above the water.

well tata for now!!

(thank you picink.)

Jane Austen's Fight Club

today i ....

woke upon time
get to school way to early
had a quiz that i didn't know about in my first class
sat through my incredibly boring next class
(well really it's the teacher that's boring)
watched the music video for Lenka's 'The Show' (super awesome stopmotion)
had to steal my master key back from the locksmiths mailbox, then return it
i had locked my keyring inside the house(i dropped it in his mailbox for him to make me copies)
ate grapes and peanut butter
with the fork i carry in my pencil case
sat upside down in a big red chair
bonked my head on the floor while removing myself from said chair
spilled ice everywhere
took an eleven page test
facebook stalked some people
dream about climbing the Melville water tower - i will this time
gawk at the price of harp strings
(around 500 buck for about 5 octaves, in case you were curious or in the market...)
have my day (so far) made by "Jane Austin's Fight Club" video
make plans for my 21st birthday party
(it's going to be sweet)

... and the day isn't over!!!

worth waking up for

i woke up at 6:15 Labor Day morning (thank you internal clock for ignoring my desire to sleep in...) at my uncle's place on the Atchafalaya River and got to watch the sun come up over the the trees. it was fully amazing. appreciate the ordinary miracles.

for some reason i didn't think to take a picture until it was all the way up.

try, try again

soooo i made this shirt for a friend of mine to wear for rush week...
and was reminded once again of the importance to take your time and think about what you're doing when working with such permanence as bleach...
the front turned out great... but i put the stencil down backwards when i did the back so when it's right side out.. the words are backwards

this is what it's supposed to look like...

i plan to do a sort of "tutorial" on doing shirts with this method... or at least about what not to do :-)

summer's last glimmer - friday, saturday

friday i went to work with my dad and then went over to school for workweek at the house and to sign away more of my life to the school and government (who is now loaning me money because they took over the people i was borrowing from...) i'm excited to be back and to see everybody!!!

so i did chi o prep stuff the rest of the day and them met up with my family and we all came down to Melville (south Louisiana) to see my grandparents and some of my grandmothers side of the fam coming from all over, Cali., NC, ole Virginni... also the church is doing a taste fair... a bunch of people cook for a theme, like Italian or Cajun... this should be interesting...

saturday
to day has been a little boring ... the elec went out during breakfast and i had to take a shower in the dark... grandmother's doing spaghetti and my little sis made a red velvet cake from scratch with cream cheese icing from scratch.... but i'm cutting back so none for me...
laters!!

summer's last glimmer - tuesday, wednesday, thursday

tuesday i was greeted with the terrible scraggliness of our front yard and resolved to drag out the push mower and tackle it before it got to be in full sun. but i got distracted by the craziness inside. then theses two guys pulled up and unloaded a mower and a weedeater from the back of their truck, and came over and said that they were going to mow the yard!!!! i was super excited. and they did a great job too! ten in the middle of my cleaning, this random lady came in (the doors were open to let the breeze in since we still had no air) and asked about the resale shop that used to be next door and how the lady she's renting the place she's staying from stole this ring and that ring and her sons ring that had this stone and the ring she bought her husband and the ring her husband bought her and how one day she came out of her bathroom and her renter's son was in her bedroom by where she kept her cash and that he stole it ... i was so confused... i think she was looking for somewhere to lok if that lady decided to hock her stuff.... i think...

the rest of my day was less crazy.. met dad for lunch and went to work

wednesday - i worked at the house all day... ugh i was so gross...
te electrical guys came (they were really funny to listen to ) to put the wires back on the house and fix the box.... but Swepco (the ecec. supplier) had to connect it to the power... so still no air :-(
by the time i got home i was tired and dirty and so we stayed home and watch church online...
http://pobc.cc

thursday AAAAIIIIRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!
they finally came, at the tail end of my project (oh the irony)
i had just finished putting most everything back in the closet, and cleaning what i could and they got the elec. back on just in time to vacuum :-) the house looked so nice when i left for lunch!

too bad some of the girls came by for workweek to get ready for rush and made it look all lived in again... im going to start cracking down on these girls about cleaning up after themselves...

summer's last glimmer - monday

ok so i thought "hey i could post about how i spent my last week of summer...however uninteresting it may turn out to be..."

so here is monday...

i get up early and head to the Chi Omega house to do some cleaning before school starts. I very quickly see this is going to be a much larger task than i had first percieved...

the lawn looks like a beard that someone tried to remove with sandpaper (i think someone tried to use a weedeater on the whole yard..), the storage closet is looming it's horribly cluttered head at me in mocking, and i go into the back yard and almost sorta kinda freak...

at first i laughed because i thought someone tried to have a bonfire and it burned part of the deck... then i saw the rest of the burn, the limb,... and the wire.... then i kinda figure out what happened and start running around in frantic hopeful disbelief, flipping swiches and pleading to noone in particular that the circumstances were not actually true... the electricity was off until further notice. that meant that i had to work without AC...... not cool. (no pun intended)

apparently the limb fell, pulling the wire down, which pulled the wires off o fthe house and out of the meter box, which caused a large explosion frying half of the nearby tree/bush (some of the leaves were all puffed up like popcorn...), lighting the grass and fence onfire... somehow the deck caught fire and burned pile of leaves too. too bad i didn't get to see any of it lol

so anyway, i decided to ignore the back for the time being and pullabout a gazillion weed from the front, pulled everthing out of the supply/storage/junk/catchall closet and started sorting.... then i met my dad for lunch and went over to work at his office!

well, that's not all i did.... i might tell you the rest later ;-)

making one last getaway before school starts again!!!

Galveston!!!

this was on the ferry to the island....

oh how i do love the ocean... i love the beach too, but i'd take the ocean, the waves, the wave crestings, the fish, the gentle rocking, the life, the salt, the expanse, the beauty.... over the beach any day :-)

can anyone say "i'm-bored-at-work-and-i-have-colored-sticky-notes-that-i-turned-into-an-origami-cube" lol

a treasure in the trove

so the other day i was with my mom and we spy a garage sale sign... we pull up and it looks like someone dumped their junk out in the front yard.... those always have the cheapest treasures :-)
so we poke around, but there is not a soul to be seen (i start to have seconds thought as to if this is THE garage sale, that we might be nosing into someone stuff that's NOT for sale...) then the slightly scary older man comes around and says there's more inside... a little creepy, but we go in (my mom will do anything for a good deal lol no fear)... well it turns out that this guy, who turns out to be not too creepy, his mom died and he's been holding this "garage sale" for about a year.. he keeps pulling stuff out of storage, i'm telling you this lady was a major pack rat... BUT.... (here's the good part)

i poked my head into the hallway and there was a big black trashcan with a bunch of clothes draped across it and it wasn't until the second time i looked that i noticed a bit of yellow sticking out from underneath...
curiosity and the treasure hunter inside me will always get the best of me, so i reached down and the second i touched the material, i know i had found something very special....
that day i rescued a beautiful cinched waist, turn-key clasp-ed, pocket-ed, butter-yellow, butter-soft, leather cape that magnificently sets off the color of my hair with my (current) skin color.....
and the price for the reward for following my inner dumpster-diver.... $5.... yep... five dollars
my life was just made fabulous :-)
now i intend to get some stunning Daniel Storto gloves, and maybe a perfect hat to round out my lovely ensemble!!!

(i'll post a pic asap but i am currently camera-less, but i'll attach it to this post)

Goldfish Mac n' Cheese -- the result

The goldfish mac n' cheese turned out yummy indeed, despite a few mess ups.

Mess up #1: Original Goldfish instead of cheddar Goldfish. Of course it would have made sense -- cheesy crackers with a cheesy dish -- but my mind was not thinking of that while I was at the store.

Mess up #2: Too much pepper. I am not a big fan of pepper, and I wish I hadn't put as much. The boyfriend, on the other hand, loves pepper, so he thought it was good.

Mess up #3: Not enough cheese. I put four cups of cheese, just as the recipe called for, but it still wasn't cheesy enough.

Mess up #4: Waiting late to start fixing dinner. By the time it was ready, we were starving and had already been tempted to just eat bread.

Overall, it was pretty good. Next time, though, I'm going to mess around with the recipe and see if I can make it better. And by better, I mean fixing all of the above mess ups and adding some Tony Chachere's.

Goldfish Mac n' Cheese

I've got all the stuff to make goldfish mac n' cheese

Will it be a success? Will I burn down the kitchen? Will I eat all the goldfish before I even begin making it? Stay tuned to find out!

Mad for Plaid

EEEEPP!!!!
i just found this in the drafts, guess JB wrote it and forgot to post it...
Juju and I have had an obsession with plaid skirts ever since reading the Gallagher Girl series by the wonderful and amazing Ally Carter. If you've never read the series, then go find the books IMMEDIATELY. There are currently four and the newest one, Only the Good Spy Young, was released three days ago.

Images via

The third book of the series, Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover, was released last year on Juju's birthday, so we had a double celebration! Along with our other best friend Rae, we dressed up as Gallagher Girls and proceeded to Barnes and Noble wearing our lovely plaid schoolgirl skirts.

words we read are things we need

i have made an executive decision ( although this has been discussed before amongst the two of us) to make an official announcement that we will be offering book reviews and receiving recommendations!!

i have a long list of to-reads, so this will give me an excuse to actually get around to reading them :-)

now i just have to find a place on the blog :-)

to start off will be the most recent release... the fourth book in the Gallagher Girls series, Only the Good Spy Young!!!
but i haven't read it yet, so JB will ave to give us a review first...

oh my gracious!!!!
so very much has happened since my last post...
schools out for one :-)
and i'm now a junior!!!!! (i feel so old..)

but my most recent adventure happened while i was out on Galveston beach with the family...

i was coming out of the water on tuesday, about to head back to the room, and suddenly my foot felt like it had an electrical shock. well i didn't know what had happened but i wasn't about to stand right there and have it happen again. and it's a good thing i was really close to shore because a few steps later i had to sit down real quick.. i looked down and my left heel was all covered in blood...
when the next wave washed over it, instead of a huge gash or an erratically patterned jellyfish sting pattern, all i saw was a small hole...
long story short, i managed to get back to the room with help from my parents, and got supper in bed as i tried to ignore the pain...
friday we stopped at Kimah Boardwalk (which is connected to another story but i don't have time , i'm in best buy at the mac display) and on of the guys that work there said i got stung by a STING RAY!!!!
so cool in retrospect lol

it's better but still a but numb and weird...

laters!!

i'm single... who's asking?

so while enjoying my last lunch in the caff [yayyyyy], stressing and *uuugghhhhh*-ing about my degree plan [yuch], and fending off this guy from spain that was wayy crushing on me....
i decided to enjoy a cup of hot stuff in my new (and new favorite) mug that i got the other day....

the bottom is really awesome ;-)

lol!!!!! love it :-)

also in that top secret hide-out place i told you about earlier.. (unfortunately it's not so top secret anymore.. people have been going up there and moving things around and leaving the window open and stuff... but i'm currently working on an exclusive entrance system ;-)
anyway =) apparently the choir used to practice up there and someone left some like 70's ruffled shirts and a tuxedo shirt that had some stain stuff on it. [found these when i was doing a mini photo session trying out my new/old film camera.. but that's another post :-) ]
well i took the tux shirt home and washed it and wore it this monday :-)
[the guy i was with up with there is in my class, and we were having our final on monday and i knew he'd enjoy it]
i looked super cute but i didn't get any pictures so i'll have to wear it again and get pics!!!

also the field behind my house is FULLFULL of wild blackberries so we went out and picked quite a bundle friday evening....
i have yet to acquire a love for them like the rest of my family....
it's been a fabulous year for them and for the wild strawberries in our front yard and the pecan trees all around the yard :)

right now i'm down south louisiana for a family reunion (moms side)... -- boiled crawfish!!! deserts GALORE!!!!! [i've had way too much already... =/ ]

well i have to go fend off another guy who's decided to come to church tomorrow to see me (really.... i don't know why guys keep comin around... i'm most certainly not a flirt lol)
... anyway
nightynight
curls and kisses

i heart bare feet!!!

today is A Day Without Shoes the Toms shoes cause awareness day! so i am going barefoot today!!! (except that i have to wear my shoes to go in the caff for lunch with my sis and dad...{which are old, but cute ;-) }) if i had thought about it last night i would have given my poor little tozies a makeover so they would be picture perfect... but i didn't :-(
i'll just have to live with the barely pink that i did a few days ago (which is better than nothing lol)
